Well, whatever you decide to stuff your face with, it’s yet another time of year for FOOD, glorious,  delicious, decadent food!  With all the delicious food you get to indulge in at work parties, holiday parties, family and friend’s houses we can tend to overeat and go a little overboard.

Here are some helpful eating tips for this holiday season – you don’t have to “give up” all your favorite, decadent foods, just try to make sure it is all within moderation.

So here are a few tips I have put together to help you make healthier and “better” choices around the holidays.

1. Don’t arrive on an empty stomach.

You may be tempted to not eat breakfast or lunch before the big dinner but don’t skip those meals. It is important to start your day off with meals high in protein, fruits, vegetables, something that is healthy and nutritious. You will be fuller when you do show up to dinner and you most likely won’t overeat.

This goes for holiday shopping and errands as well. Plan your shopping route so you don’t pass the Cinnabon stand a dozen times. Both sights, and smells can invite you to eat, and with some vendors purposefully wafting their aromas your way, saying no can feel impossible.

2. Avoid excess alcohol and snacks.

Tis the season for fun drinks to indulge in. Everything is okay in moderation, but try not to consume the calories away in drinks. Also, you might want to avoid over snacking while you are waiting for the main course. Keep your distance from the snack table. Engage in meaningful conversations with people so you aren’t tempted to just snack the whole time.

3. Drinks lots of water.

Staying hydrated is very important, especially if you are going to consume alcoholic beverages as well. Start off your day with water and continue to drink it throughout the day. Staying hydrated helps curve certain cravings, and it keeps your stomach feeling full so you don’t overeat. Try to stay away from sugary drinks, soda, and too much alcohol.

4. Eat slowly.

Take your time, enjoy your meal. No need to rush. Pace yourself, enjoy conversation while eating. Let your body take the time to slowly digest your food. It will also help you feel fuller faster  and longer.

5. Have fun & enjoy!

This is the time of year to spend with family and friends, enjoy good company and great food! Have fun, enjoy, and don’t feel guilty if you have a couple things that are super indulgent. Moderation is key 🙂

Happy Holidays!
