The Fight Network’s Dare to Defend Initiative

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” ~Marianne Williamson
The Following article was forwarded to me by my Life Coach – yes I have one of those 😉 She read it and thought I would be a great fit for the program. I was apprehensive at first, I mean the Boxer it featured was so amazingly awesome, what would a program like this need from an Amateur, someone just starting out…

I then received the same article again, this time from a Sister in the Lean Eating Community – she felt the same, and urged me to look into further.
Well, clearly the Universe was leading me somewhere, here was an opportunity to ‘go with the flow’, and see where it would take me.
Going back to my Life Wizard, I shared my apprehensions. She basically told me to grow a pair, and go for it. It didn’t matter that I may not have all the qualifications, if I wanted it, go after it, and don’t wait for anyone to give me permission.
Made a few calls and emails, and was connected with Carlie Morrison, Director of Marketing, and of the Dare to Defend initiative. We spoke via email and telephone, and Iron Lion Training was invited to one of the Dare to Defend events at the YWCA.

Lesson: Be brave enough to take chances, the worst that can happen is you get a ‘No’ for what you are asking for.
Iron Lion will now be apart of the Dare to Defend initiative, the next event will be Tuesday, April 30th, 2013. Check back in May, as Iron Lion will be doing a couple of our own events, closer to my home gym, Undisputed MMA  www.undisputedmma.ca
Carlie, being as awesome as she is, wanted to help promote what we do, so she arranged an interview with Boxing Analyst, Corey Erdman. Here is the great piece he put together:
One oversight, that I would like to take this time to correct, is that Iron Lion Training is a joint venture with my partner, and S&C Coach, Ron Dykstra. It is true that I hit hard, harder than most men of comparable size, however that strength was developed through programs Ron Dykstra  designed specifically for me, to perform better at sport. I was always strong, but he really helped me take my strength to another level.
Community, Strength, Balance, and Simplicity – Thank you Fight Network for giving Iron Lion Training an opportunity to give back, while fulfilling our mission statement.
Next Up -> “The Art of Expression” Radio Show, which will be broadcast on www.rootsreggaeradio.com. Airing live from 6pm-7pm on
Friday May 10th to discuss the topic “Fitness & Body Image” with Steph Iron Lioness 🙂
